An Internet outage in a store means stalled registers. A cellular backup link takes over automatically. How to set it up.
The principle
The gateway monitors the primary link; if it fails, it switches to an LTE/5G modem, then back automatically. Payment terminals and the VPN keep working.
Check coverage
5G isn’t available everywhere. We check signal at each site (indoors, where the modem will sit) and pick the carrier and antenna accordingly. Where signal is weak, an outdoor antenna or a second wired ISP may be better.
Control the data bill
In backup mode, the cellular link can be reserved for registers and VPN, with customer Wi-Fi paused.
