14 intercoms across 7 buildings with no network
A residential complex owned by a Montreal housing organization: seven neighbouring buildings, a single Internet connection and fourteen entrances to equip with video intercoms.
The challenge
- Seven buildings in two staggered rows
- Only one building connected to the Internet
- No conduit between buildings; the ground between them is stone gabions
- Two entrances per building to equip
The approach
Instead of digging, the buildings are linked by wireless bridges mounted on the rooftop access cabins, all the same height and about 25 m apart. The connected building is the hub; each building gets a small PoE switch powering its two UniFi intercoms.
Why it matters
Excavation cost disappears, installation never enters a unit, and the whole site is managed from one console: resident directory, openings and history. The same approach applies to access control and cameras.
